I asked the kids if we should only give thoughtful pinches to their main teachers for each holiday this year instead of giving to all of their teachers. My daughter almost cried - how would her P.E. teacher feel if he didn’t get a gift too? Good question. So recently at a birthday party, I casually asked the wife of the P.E. teacher how her hub would feel if he didn’t get a pinch.  She laughed and said in a nice way that my family went a little overboard with our pinches for every single holiday. Yippeee! I got the hint and was ready to skip giving pinches to all of the speciality teachers.  As I thought about the ease of giving only four gifts instead of fourteen, the guilt of missing a lesson on values quickly started to override the feeling of leisure. I have always stressed the importance of letting our talented and caring teachers know how much we appreciate them. How can we only think of the main teachers when the specialty teachers work just as hard?  So here we are, back to square one and Halloween is creeping up fast!  It’s the first opportunity (a.k.a. holiday) of the school year to give out thoughtful pinches.  Fortunately for us, my cousin came into town for the weekend so her support gave us a big head start on getting them ready for next week.

Trick or treat, smell my feet. I found these socks at Target last year after Halloween and they were half off. Yes, folks, each pair was 50 cents. Even though I'm not in love with how they look - they feel so soft and fluffy.

The tissue packs cost more than the socks but I didn't care. Overpriced tissue is something we don't normally buy for ourselves but we're happy to use if someone gives it to us. The main teachers will get a pack in their bags with the socks.

I bought these locally made soaps at a local store called Hunt & Gather. At first I was attracted to the colors of the packaging but when I read the ingredients and learned about the scents, I was hooked. These bars of soaps make a nice, kinda pricey (but we're supporting a local business), non-food thoughtful pinch for my wonderful neighbors. So even if their feet were smelly, they won't be for long!

My daughter is dressing up as a Harry Potter Gryffindor student (thank you for not confusing her with Hermione). Her pinch includes: hair mascara, a cupcake kit and some "smell my feet" Day of the Dead socks.

My son will dress up as a football player. Original. So going along with the smell-my-feet-sock theme and tying it into football, these socks are his pinch from me.

Aw, cute! We got pinched by my cousin Jay-Jay's family (Hajarama).

What I love most about Halloween is passing out the candy to the trick or treaters. The hub usually takes the kids out while I stay home, with a glass full of wine, waiting to see the creative, cute, scary, costumed kiddos that come to our door saying, "Trick or Treat."  This year however, I will be splitting my favorite part of Halloween with another favorite activity - watching the Vikings play Monday Night Football. I'm really hoping to say to those Bears, "Smell my feet!"

Pinches,
