Peanut Butter Lover's Day

When I was deciding whether I should write about Peanut Butter Lover’s Day , Strawberry Day, Day of Unplugging Day, Minnesota Day or Mulled Wine Day - I wrestled with the decision. From my perspective, there are too many thoughtful ways to celebrate any of those national days and I couldn’t decide which one to write about. What a great problem to have!

So the other day, when my son was describing himself to me, he said he had black hair and peanut butter skin and I knew it was a sign. I had to write about National Peanut Butter Lover’s Day because the image my son created in my mind made me fall in love with him all over again. Peanut butter is one of my favorite foods and I absolutely loved that he used it to describe his skin color.

I know it’s hard to keep track of all these special days but try not to confuse National Peanut Butter Day, which was celebrated on January 24th, with National Peanut Butter Lover’s Day which is celebrated on March 1st. These are two different celebrations. And in case you didn’t know, there are many national days that involve peanut butter. In fact, back in 2017, I wrote a post on National PB & J Day. Just remember, on National Peanut Butter LOVER’S Day we celebrate the PB Lover, not the actual food item per se.

Before I could start thinking about what kinds of thoughtful pinches I could give to the PB lovers in my life, I decided to check my favorite national day resource, Nationaldaycalendar.com. Usually the site has information about how the national day began and who created it. However, for this particular day, the site didn’t have that data. Instead, I’ll share with you, straight from Nationaldaycalendar.com, their fun facts:

“Fun Peanut Butter Facts:

  • It takes about 540 peanuts to make a 12-ounce jar of peanut butter.

  • C.H. Sumner first sold peanut butter in the United States at the Universal Exposition in St. Louis.  He sold $705.11 of the “new treat” at his concession stand.

  • Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup was introduced to America in 1928.

  • The oldest operating manufacturer and seller of peanut butter has been selling peanut butter since 1898.

  • Mr. Ed TV’s used peanut butter as a secret ingredient to get a horse talking.

  • Americans spend almost $800 million a year on peanut butter.

  • January 24th is National Peanut Butter Day.”

For more inspiration, I turned to Pinterest to check out all the peanut butter pins. I was hoping to find some ideas to use as thoughtful pinches. Warning: If you are a peanut butter lover like myself, it is pure torture to see all the delicious recipes so I will advise you to avoid clicking on the link if you are hungry. Nevertheless, Pinterest did confirm my hunch that baking anything with peanut butter or making an exotic dish (the Filipinos love their Kare-Kare) would be one the of the best ways to celebrate the day with a PB lover.

However, I did come across one gift idea that is totally fat and calorie free and better yet, you need not worry about nut allergies. Pinterest was full of memes (quotes) that were about peanut butter. I’m sure you could find any of the memes printed on coffee mugs, t-shirts, bumper stickers etc on Etsy or Amazon. Or you can simply pinch a PB lover by sending them a text with some of these favorites that I found:

  • Peanut Butter is a creme from the gods. Therefore, I’m not addicted; I’m divine.

  • Peanut Butter is cheaper than therapy.

  • Peanut Butter makes everything Peanut Better.

  • Talents: Eating peanut butter.

  • Sometimes I whisper, “I love you” to the peanut butter Jar.

  • Diamonds are a girl’s best friend? False. Peanut butter and Nikes are a girl’s best friend.

  • What I meant to do: 1) 50 push ups, 2) 50 sit ups, 3) 30 minutes on the bike, 4) 3-mile run. What I actually did: 1) ate an entire jar of peanut butter.

  • I might have peanut butter management issues.

  • Whoever said, “follow your dreams” gave me some pretty bad life advice because if I did I’d be eating peanut butter on a tropical island all the time.

  • Spread love as thick as you would peanut butter.

If baking/cooking and writing memes are not your thing, just tell a PB lover that you’re thinking of them on March 1st and hand them a big spoon with a jar full of peanut butter. There’s no other classic way to show your thoughtfulness to a peanut butter lover than that!

Pinches,

Barb
