Boy, do I love me some Mc Donald’s. What I love even more is Shamrock Shake Season at McDonald’s!! Sure I avoid dairy but NOT when this shake is around. For me, there’s no coconut or almond milk substitute for the Shamrock Shake from Mickey D’s!! I am guessing many feel the same way or else they wouldn’t bring it back year after year. I’m also guessing that many wouldn’t mind receiving a shake as a thoughtful pinch. Pick up a few and deliver them to friends and family who enjoy the minty cool milkiness. And can the timing be any better? People, I’m talking about the Girls Scout Cookie Season going on right now! McDonald’s adds chocolate to the original shamrock shake and it tastes like a Thin Mint according to those who are lucky enough to enjoy chocolate (waaa, poor me!). The point is St. Patrick’s Day is this Friday, March 17th and it’s time to start pinching!
Oh heck, since I’m already pushing Mc Donald’s I might as well share that I’m going to skip the Filet O’ Fish this Friday. Yes, I have been known to pick up one (really two) of those sandwiches on a Friday during Lent. I’ve tried making this sandwich at home but for some reason they don’t turn out as soft and squishy good as the original. It could be because I’m using a gluten-free bun, gluten-free fish sticks and I’ve left off the cheese and the tartar sauce. Plus nothing tastes better with a Filet O’Fish than a side of those fries - and not a small side but the ginormous size because you need about 1,000 more after you eat just one. Anyway, I will be skipping the FoF this Friday because I will be eating corned beef and cabbage for dinner to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. The lucky holiday lands on a Friday during Lent this year which poses a big problem. I know they make Tofurkey but I’m not sure if they make Tofurned beef. Lucky for us, the Catholic church says if we do something good on St. Pat’s it will offset eating meat on a “forbidden” Friday. Easy-peasy! I am adding a bunch of extra prayers as my “something good” because I do not want to feel guilty as I enjoy my corned beef and cabbage this year. So the calories I would normally use for a Friday meal at Mc Donald’s will have to wait for another Friday during Lent, which, rest assured there are a million Fridays left (tiny exaggeration). Meanwhile, if there are any corned beef left overs (key word is if), lunch the next day is so delicious because we make tasty Reuben sandwiches. However, my daughter has caught on to the corned beef craze so we haven’t had any leftovers, which is fine by me. I love the absence of left overs because to me it means I did something right for at least that day. Besides, it gives the hub and I an excuse to go out to Tilia where they make the best Reuben sandwiches in the Twin Cities. Every calorie of that Reuben is worth it!
Speaking of calories and St. Patrick’s Day, if you want to burn some calories, I suggest you watch some Irish dancers jigging it up. You don’t even have to dance, you can just watch them and the calories just melt away. All the jumping and dancing they do, is a lot o’ work! As a thoughtful pinch, we went to support a friend who was Irish dancing at a local mall. She was thanking us for coming to watch but she ended up giving us a thoughtful pinch right back because she inspired us with her beauty and her talented skills! All the costumes were cheery and the show was wonderful entertainment. None of those dancers need to be skipping any calories this St. Patrick’s Day for sure.
Well, I’m still scurrying around like a leprechaun getting the St. Patrick’s Day thoughtful pinches ready. I’m up to my usual shenanigans buying the traditional lottery tickets for the teachers and whipping up batches of the Irish Creme for well...everyone else. OMG! I just thought of something. What if I gave out the Irish Creme AND the Shamrock Shake together? What would that taste like? Yoo hoo, calling all bartenders! I may be onto something BIG here. Stop at a McDonald’s pronto, buy a Shamrock Shake and stir in a few shots of the Irish Creme recipe. Call it the “Sinful Shamrock Shake” or S Cubed or Triple S. On St. Patrick's Day, that alcoholic shake could be as big for revenue at bars across America as the revenue has been for McDonald’s now that they've kept the breakfast menu all day. (Exaggerate much?)
Good Luck! May you find your pot o' gold!
Pinches,
Barb
