You guys, I can’t believe I almost let this day sneak by me! May the 4th was forgotten in my “special days potpourri” blog last week. So guess what. I am blogging TWICE this week. Can you stand it? It’s a first for me.
There’s no doubt about it, “May the Fourth Be With You” is a Star Wars themed day. Now that the franchise is owned by Disney there are very few people who do not know a character or two from the seven Star Wars movies. Thoughtful pinches for your Star Wars fan can be a retro or current style lunchbox filled with goodies or maybe a rendition of the theme song on the piano?
A couple of years ago I was at Costco and saw that a three-pack of Star Wars DVDs were priced at only $19.99 so I bought them. The whole family was pumped and ready to watch. Popcorn, lights out, comfy seats and then the movie starts. For about 5 minutes I’m thinking, “Wow, I know it’s been years but my memory is really bad. I do not remember this part at all.” Then my hub says something that made me feel good and bad at the same time. “This isn’t Star Wars - Harrison Ford isn’t in this movie.” Whoops! That’s how out of touch I was. The three DVDs were the series made AFTER the original three episodes and you know what? I’m so glad it happened that way. As a family we watched all 6 movies over the summer in the order that makes sense to my kids: Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith, Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back (my fave) and Return of the Jedi. So by the time The Force Awakens came out - we were ready to engage!
The timing couldn’t be better for us. My son was the appropriate age when we started the Star Wars craze, my daughter had always been interested in science fiction and I was ready to let the childhood memories come rolling back. Watching Star Wars movies together is a wonderful bridge for all generations to come together. My Star Wars heroes are Chewy and Yoda but I’m also a Queen Amidala fan. I’m not sure if that’s just because Natalie Portman rocked the character or because she married a bad ass.
May the Fourth Be With You!
Pinches,
Barb
