I saw a card at Paper Source that made me laugh. It said "Even Martin Luther King Jr. only gets a day." Surely this card was created for people like me. The kind of person that not only LOVES to celebrate our birthdays but likes to make it our birthday week, weekend, month. It made me stop and think. I only need to have one special day and I am thankful to be someone who actually likes to celebrate my birthday. We all know someone who flies under the radar hoping that no one remembers them on their birthday. Those people are TOTALLY opposite me.
Ever since I could afford it, I have thrown my own parties. I love picking the venue, planning, creating the invites, coming up with party favors and just loving the whole essence of celebration. This Friday - August 28th is my bday - and I'm actually not planning one thing to celebrate. I mean, don't get me wrong, I will still have an awesome day, complete with wine (rose please?) and dinner but this year I didn't plan a party. Being the "all-or-nothing-gal" if I couldn't have the party I wanted this year, I would wait to have one next year. The venue has already been secured for August 28, 2016. Stay tuned - there will be posts on my invites, party favors, menus etc.- it will surely make you think (or gag) - this gal loves her birthday!!
A few years ago while taking a personal renewal course, I heard some other women talking about making up a birthday bucket list every year. So in a journal that was reserved for recording my resolutions and goals, I started a new tradition with my 43rd birthday bucket list. This is not the bucket list that has "climb Mount Everest" or "meet Josh Duhamel". Although of course, those should be on there but this bucket list needs to be pretty easy because this list has the same number of things to check off as the number of years we have been alive. This year I need to come up with forty-six goals to accomplish in a year. I know, right? That's a lot of stuff to do in a year! These goals need to be pretty attainable otherwise I end up flipping off the Mount-Everest-type goals.
One goal that will be on the 46th Year Bucket List is: wish people happy birthday. Even if I'm late - whether it is via social media, phone calls, snail mail or my Red Stamp texts - I'm going to start this goal on August 29th. I used to think that if you didn't reach the person on the actual day then why bother? I lost sight that good wishes can be said any time. Thoughtfulness is welcomed, even late. Early this Saturday morning a dear friend of mine wished me a thoughtful happy birthday on Facebook. Well, it started a nice chain of very early, thoughtful pinch wishes the whole day. I have to laugh because I ended up being one of those people who got their birthday week after all!
Pinches,
Barb
