I sent my kids to school on Friday with "Spring Kits".  They delivered the thoughtful pinches to their teachers to get them excited about Spring because it has sprung! We were going on break and since we do not return to school until 4/6, we thought they might appreciate the jump on the new season.

The inspiration of the "Spring Kit" came to me because I scooped up these yellow take out boxes from Yellowpinwheels on sale.  They are the perfect size and color for a pinch of Spring.  I had to think: what is small enough to fit inside, not expensive and resembles Spring?   Instead of filling the kit with jelly beans or peeps - which are Easter faves of my clan  - I chose to support a local business store and include some Bit o Honey. Different for sure,  but it's local and people appreciate that.  Bit o Honey candy is now made with honey locally made by Minnesota bees. Spring = Bees.

EDIBLE GRASS (FLAVORED GREEN APPLE) AND BLUE PAPER EASTER BASKET GRASS SOLD AT TARGET. I ONLY USED ONE PACKAGE OF EACH FOR 20+ KITS. BIT O HONEY BOUGHT AT LOCAL HONEY STORE AND GIVEN IN PLASTIC BAGS FROM YELLOWPINWHEELS.COM TO KEEP CANDY FROM TASTING EARTHY FROM PODS. THE TWINE, NAME TAGS AND GOLD PEN ARE FROM BROWNINK.COM .

I also picked up twenty-five pods of herbs and small veggies at Home Depot for $1.49 each (Target sells for $1 - shucks!)  The kids loved choosing the herb or veg that best "fit" the teacher and I loved discussing gardens.  In MN we sometimes forget that gardens do bloom around here. To give pods was a risk because some may not have a green thumb but who knows - this may be the year someone gets their hands in the dirt. And if not, they can pass it along to someone who will. Spring = fresh herbs, flowers, gardens oh my!

Whatever Springy items fit your budget and could support a local business put it together in a cute container and call it a kit.  My kit doesn't promise a garden or a basket full of anything, just a thoughtful pinch of something to grow and something to eat.

Pinches,
Barb
