National Do Something Good For Your Neighbor Day

There are a few things that I like about the national holiday Do Something Good for Your Neighbor Day. First, I like that the way to celebrate this national day is both vague and specific all at once. Second, if you’re fortunate to have good neighbors, this day is easy-peasy to celebrate. And last, the word neighbor can be defined as: “1. A person who lives near another. 2. A person or thing that is near another. 3. One’s fellow human being.”, according to Nationaldaycalendar.com. In other words, if you don’t want to celebrate with a person who lives on your block, you can celebrate with a cubicle neighbor at the office or the workout neighbor at the gym etc. The possibilities are endless!

Spotify

In May 2015, I wrote a post called A Mother’s Mix Day. The title was a play on words which included A Mother’s Mix, which is the name of the CD playlists that I have been curating since 2010 and since I give out these playlists every Mother’s Day, I combined the two for a Mother’s Day post. I know, it’s very Wheel of Fortune-like, right? Well today’s post uses A Mother’s Mix Day as a base and goes a little further.

Help Me, Help You

Years ago I wrote a post entitled Flaws. It took balls to write that post which I didn’t realize until I just looked it up and I’m pretty proud that I was able to articulate my exact sentiments in a short post. Let me clarify, I am not proud of the person that I am, I am proud that I have the ability to use my words to express how I feel. The Flaws post exposes my thoughts about my mother and in the process, I face my own flaws. I remember getting so many texts and comments about that post.

National Pet Parents Day

Yippee! I found another national day that I totally resonate with: National Pet Parents Day! Have I told you lately how much I love Nationaldaycalendar.com? This website gives us so many reasons to celebrate every day. What I love about these occasions or national days is that we can use them as “excuses” to show someone we care about them. It’s another opportunity to let someone know that we are thinking of them.

National Orchid Day

I was on the website NationalDayCalendar.com looking over some of the national days for this upcoming week and although there were many days that sounded interesting, I choose to write posts about the national days that I truly resonate with. Since I love giving and receiving orchids, I decided to learn more about National Orchid Day. Wow, I did not expect to be pulled at my heartstrings but this national day just tugged away. You can click on the links above to read the full story but be prepared for some tears. Or you can just get the watered down version below:

We Are Family

We are family - I got all my sisters with me - We are family - Get up everybody and sing. Hello! Since National Sibling Day is around the corner (April 10th), I thought it would be fitting to write about family dynamics. Siblings and family are subject matters that naturally intertwine. But hang on, I’m going to try to parallel it with the new Bronco’s Head Coach’s philosophy. Wait, what?

Rejection

I recently spent time with my mom in Arizona because we were both attending a family friend’s event. Not only was it great to see lots of friends and family because I haven’t seen them in years but reminiscing with everyone was precious. As we looked around to see who might over hear us, it was also a little thrilling to hear the whispered updates about those who were there and those who didn’t come to the party. This celebration was more than I expected and as a bonus, I was able to conduct a little unofficial research for this post.

Skiing

I recently read a quote on a billboard that said, “The root of joy is gratefulness.” I looked up the quote and learned that David Steindl-Rast was the one who said this. Not sure why I have never seen or heard this quote until now but I’m so glad to know about it now. No wonder I don’t ever think being grateful is a chore. The more I’m grateful the more I am filled with joy. Makes a lot of sense.

Guest Spaces

At the moment, I am deciding where to get mattresses for our guest bedroom. Exciting, I know. The price difference between two vendors is around $150-300 depending on the various specifications. I am buying two full size beds so it adds up to a minimum of $300 to consider. I wouldn’t usually discuss price details about my home decor (unless it was a steal!) but the decision about which mattress company to use is hanging on me. I am trying to live up to a thoughtful concept that involves guests.

#7

The number seven is a popular number. Besides being worn by many great athletes like Elway, there are many positive associations with the number. I may be one of few but I actually consider the “7 Year Itch” theory a positive thing. And who doesn’t like belting out Take Me Out the Ball Game during the 7th Inning Stretch?

Family Love

Lately I have been experiencing some very trying times within my family. And not with just one or two members. Imagine how low my self-confidence is and how high my self-doubt is. From deductive reasoning one may come to the conclusion that since I am the common denominator for all of these tiffs, I am therefore the problem. But I am going to insist that I’m a lover not a fighter.
