All in Holidays/National Days
These past two weeks, as I walk the dogs thru the hood, I’ve been loving the decorations that the neighbors are displaying in anticipation for Halloween. To celebrate the upcoming holiday, some front yards are decorated scary. Some are cute. Some are both scary and cute which is confusing but still awesome. I see blow up Draculas and ghosts and skeletons galore. It’s quite charming to see everyone getting into the spirit for this candy-filled holiday.
This may surprise many of my friends but I’m not a “I am woman, hear me roar” type of woman. There are many factors as to why I am not but when I learned about a national day from the website NationalDayCalendar.com called National Brave Day I decided to explore my view on womanhood a little further.
People must be so sick of me talking about my birthday. So sorry but this post is going to be another “something” about my birthday. The reason I HAVE to bring up my birthday is because it happens to fall on the same day as National Thoughtful Day.
In 2020 I started the process with nationaldaycalendar.com to have an official day of National Thoughtful Day. One of my efforts was writing a plea in a post for why we should recognize and celebrate the day. The post is entitled Thoughtful Day Top 5. Since this national day is very young, it hasn’t had much recognition and we decided this year, using video to capture a fews things that I did on August 28, 2022 might help inspire more to celebrate the national day.
This is going to sound like I’m a kid in a candy shop but…Hooray! There’s a national day for sour candy! How cool is that? As a kid growing up I was all business - I wouldn’t waste my time on just any candy - it had to be chocolate or nothing at all. Well, I never walked away from any candy, but my preference would be chocolate bars.
There are a few things that I like about the national holiday Do Something Good for Your Neighbor Day. First, I like that the way to celebrate this national day is both vague and specific all at once. Second, if you’re fortunate to have good neighbors, this day is easy-peasy to celebrate. And last, the word neighbor can be defined as: “1. A person who lives near another. 2. A person or thing that is near another. 3. One’s fellow human being.”, according to Nationaldaycalendar.com. In other words, if you don’t want to celebrate with a person who lives on your block, you can celebrate with a cubicle neighbor at the office or the workout neighbor at the gym etc. The possibilities are endless!
In May 2015, I wrote a post called A Mother’s Mix Day. The title was a play on words which included A Mother’s Mix, which is the name of the CD playlists that I have been curating since 2010 and since I give out these playlists every Mother’s Day, I combined the two for a Mother’s Day post. I know, it’s very Wheel of Fortune-like, right? Well today’s post uses A Mother’s Mix Day as a base and goes a little further.
Yippee! I found another national day that I totally resonate with: National Pet Parents Day! Have I told you lately how much I love Nationaldaycalendar.com? This website gives us so many reasons to celebrate every day. What I love about these occasions or national days is that we can use them as “excuses” to show someone we care about them. It’s another opportunity to let someone know that we are thinking of them.
I was on the website NationalDayCalendar.com looking over some of the national days for this upcoming week and although there were many days that sounded interesting, I choose to write posts about the national days that I truly resonate with. Since I love giving and receiving orchids, I decided to learn more about National Orchid Day. Wow, I did not expect to be pulled at my heartstrings but this national day just tugged away. You can click on the links above to read the full story but be prepared for some tears. Or you can just get the watered down version below:
For the last fifteen of the 25 years that my hub has been in the NFL, I have stayed put for the holiday season. I was pregnant with our first child 15 years ago and once she came into the world, I became a mom so I didn’t travel anywhere for the holidays because logistically, it didn’t make sense. However, this year, for the first time since I became a mom, I am not home for the holidays.
There is really a national day that celebrates re-gifting and the date is before Christmas. To be specific, it’s always celebrated the Thursday before Christmas. I would have thought this national day would be after Christmas so that we could celebrate all of the presents that we receive that we are not going to use.
Ok the title of this blog is not misspelled. I am aware that the phrase is Bah Humbug and it is what people associate with discontent around the holidays. I have purposely called this post Blah Hmmm Bug because I wanted to share a few things about the 2021 Holiday Season. But first, a Christmas story.
