Connectors (Part 2)

So there is connection and then there are connectors. Two totally separate nouns that I’m writing about in my “Connection” blog post series. What would the discussion about connections be without connectors? Connectors are instrumental in putting us on paths that ultimately change our lives. For the sake of thoughtfulness and the awareness of silver linings, the connectors that I am referring to in this post are for those who change our lives for the better, not worse.

National Iced Tea Day

As an underaged drinker in college, I quickly learned why my friend’s drink choice when we snuck into bars was a Long Island Iced Tea. Here are the ingredients for a Long Island Iced Tea: vodka, rum, gin, tequila, triple sec, sweet and sour mix, cola and a lemon slice. If all of the prices for well drinks were the same - why wouldn’t she get the most alcohol for her money? The rationale is simultaneously gross and brilliant. However, it begs the question - why do they call it Long Island Ice Tea when iced tea isn’t even an ingredient?

"Makegood"

Back in my advertising days, the term “makegood” was frequently used by media buying departments all over the country. Basically, my job as a media buyer was to purchase air time for my clients so that their advertising commercials would run on TV or radio stations at specific times on scheduled dates. If one of my client’s “spots” (a.k.a. commercials) was not going to air as planned, the station had to “make it good” by airing it at another time/day. The value of that “makegood” needed to be the same or better than the value of what was originally planned.
