Chances are you may have read the book Go, Dog. Go! by P.D. Eastman if you are around little kids. There are several versions of the book but it falls under the Dr. Seuss umbrella. I was given the original version (thanks Ryanne!) before my first was born and it has been a family favorite ever since. Whichever version you may have read, you know how it ends - all the dogs go to a huge dog party on top of a tree. Wow, what a celebration!
Do you throw your dog a party to celebrate their birthday? My friend would throw one for her dog, Brandi and she would invite all of her friends with dogs to come celebrate. It was fun and over the top. That was long before the big boom in the dog business came along. I'm pretty sure if this friend had become a dog party coordinator back then she would be a multi-millionaire today.
My dog turns 11 years old on September 30th. I remember when we got him. He was 10 months old and he was a “stall tactic” because the hub was not ready to have kids yet. Fortunately for me, my dog became my whole world. I would bake him biscuit treats all the time. His fur would get brushed, his ears would be cleaned, his teeth brushed and whenever I had to leave him at home, I would play classical music CD's so he wouldn't get lonely. It's hard to imagine that I had so much time for this guy before I had kids. For my dog's birthday this year, I baked him his treats and bought him some gifts - thoughtful pinches. He has waited a long time for some special attention. This dog of mine is patient and oh, so loyal. I cannot wait to make his day!
In the past, we've celebrated our dog's birthday with expensive fancy dog cakes or a simple candle in his wet food. Whatever pinches we gave him, he was just happy to get attention. So if you have a dog or know someone who does, give them a little pinch for their birthday (or any day). This dog recipe came from McPherson's K-9 Cookbook Easy-to-Make Dog Biscuit Recipes (I bought the recipe book over 11 years ago). It came with three dog biscuit cookie cutters but use any shape cookie cutters. It's super easy to make and very thoughtful to give.
Would love to see you and your dog up on top of a tree at a dog party soon!
